My dearest wee Mother
The weather is very close & grey,
inclining to thunder. I did not get
home till 11 yesterday, for I had to
go to the Geographical Dinner to reply for
the guests. Cecil Rawling got the Royal
medal, but to my sorrow he was not
there to receive it. Glenconner was one of

RGS meeting: https://www.jstor.org/stable/1779689: Rawling's Patron's Medal was accepted by his mother, as he was still at the Front. He died that October.
He was one of the three hundred British generals killed in the Great War. He died at the Third Battle of Ypres (Paschendaele).
