Langwell, Berriedale, R.S.O. Caithness.

25th Sept 21

Dear Mr Buchan

I am here for a few days deer-stalking. It is kind of you to send me the volume of your History, which I shall certainly read with interest, and will let you know about any special points, if any, that may strike me. I much appreciate your thinking of me. It is dull work being out in the desert after such a busy life, and to find one's-self remembered by one's former acquaintances is a welcome consolation.

I have been unwise enough to jot down a few notes about my 43 years in the army, and hope you will accept a copy of the finished article - to be published shortly - that I will venture to send you. My mouth is, of course, rather closed for the present in regard to the Great War, and, moreover, I did not wish to say too much about any one particular stage of my life. Hence the Great War chapters are not as complete as they could be made. This is all entre nous, as I am not talking about the book before it appears.

Yours very truly

WR Robertson
