My dearest wee Mother

I have just got back from Kent after a very pleasant week-end. I took the children long walks. I find their company the best holiday I know. They are all very well & Mr John looks enormously better for

his summer in the country. Billy Fish is colossal & rubicund & very urbane. We went to lunch at Penshurst & took Sylvia Gleichen [ST: Lady Edward Gleichen], Billy's godmother. Susie is coming up on Wednesday in the hunt for a housemaid. I hope the week after that to be able to get away with her for a few

days. We thought of going to the Cotswolds.

I had another letter from Mrs Maude this morning. She told me you had written to her.

I have finished Vol XVIII of my History this week-end. It is a heavy job keeping that thing going, but it is

such good propaganda that I must try.
