My dearest wee Mother

I have had two letters from old Nan. I am glad she went to Leithen; it would be a bit of a change for her. I am sorry that you have been so seedy, wee body. It is a sore job for you.

Tell Nan I will write to the 'Spectator' about her book. I fear I can do nothing about the man who wants to be her secretary. He will have a pension, if all he says is true. There are not many vacancies for literary work just now. I get a great many letters like that.

It is a cold foggy morning. I had a weary day yesterday with idle conferences. I saw Northcliffe & told him that I though his letter very ill-advised. We dined with Ian Hamilton & Sir William Robertson. To day I am going to see Venizelos. I get home early on Saturdays, & the children always have a little entertainment where they recite. Alice is getting very good at it.

We are all very well. I long tremendously to see you all again. We have never been so long separate.

Much love to all
