My dearest wee Mother
I had a very wet day yesterday. I had a fire lit & dried my breeks & socks, but as it poured all day anytime I went out I got wet again. Happily it was fine in the morning for my walk from the station. The rain has done a world of good to our hill-top. The children are very well. Alice & Mr

John are deep in "Tom Sawyer" & "King Solomon's Mines". Mr John is sleeping much better. I am looking forward to spending the next four days in the country. I hope to finish "Mr Standfast" or very near it. How is Nan's book getting on?
I do hope your sickness is better, wee body. We are all puzzled by the delay of the German attack.
