My dear Mr Buchan,

I would not leave London on Friday, after receiving your wonderfully kind letter without trying to write you my thanks, & altho I could not adequately give expression to my feelings I wrote to you from a very grateful heart. Imagine my dismay this morning when I came up from Hydon to find my letter, already stamped, lying on my writing table. In my hurry of departure I evidently forgot

It distresses me dreadfully, & I hope you will not give me up as the most callous person in the world, as I so appreciated all you were good enough to say, & felt that I could never thank you sufficiently Now it only looks as if I was unappreciative, but I hope you know me well enough to know this is not the case.

I feel so happy at the prospect of our joint efforts, wh. I know will show Minto in his true light, as you are good enough to allow me to supply the personal touches. Again apologising for my stupidity about the letter, Yours v. sincerely Mary Minto
