My dear Mr Buchan,

I would not leave London
on Friday, after receiving your
wonderfully kind letter without trying
to write you my thanks, & altho I
could not adequately give expression
to my feelings I wrote to you
from a very grateful heart.
Imagine my dismay this morning
when I came up from Hydon to find
my letter, already stamped, lying
on my writing table. In my hurry
