Dear John,

This hotel is infested by young
Swisses, apparently quite
unconnected with one another, who walk, talk,
wag their arms, point at the scenery with
their walking sticks, bow to ladies & gentlemen
at the right hand table, & the left hand
table, & the middle tables, & all the other tables
in turn, exactly - exactly - as Beery
wd. do these things.
^(And they are all just as like Beery as a row of pins.)
Do you know if he
went on a walking tour in Helvetia, or to
winter sports there, circa 1900?

One of them has "brought his
mother along" - as my Yankee neighbour
