My dear Mr Buchan,
You could not have given me a more acceptable Christmas present. I am delighted to possess "The Northern Muse", & also The Three Hostages wh. I look forward to being thrilled by, I hear it is impossible to put it down. & I am so proud to have these two books from the author, thank you most gratefully. _ How good of you to say you miss the weekly letters & the 'Minto' work

I am still kept busy writing to friends & sometimes strangers about the Memoir. Some day if I attempt to revise parts of the Indian Journals for possible publication, I shall ask you to be good enough to reread them, as without your blue pencil, I am sure I shd. get too long winded - but I can hardly believe the public could be interested! & I expect I shall go on thinking about it till I am dead! _ I wonder if you wd. care to have the two Laszlo prints of Minto & self as my Xmas present to you. I dont think you care for full dress pictures, & I wonder if you have space on a bedroom wall for them? - or is there any special photo

you wd. prefer. I shd. have to get it re photographed so it can hardly be ready by Xmas._ If you like the prints, I will have [have] them framed. They wd. remind you of Minto & his very cracking wife, when any breath of criticism was in the air. You can have large or small prints - they are at Hydon but I go there early Thursday morning, so will look out whatever you select - you will remember them I am sure. _ It was very

difficult to get through that heart stirring evening, people were so kind & appreciative that it made it all the more difficult, but I shd. have been unworthy had I not risen to the occasion in my humble way, & after all I said practically nothing.
