My dear John

I write to report progress. I saw
Leo Amery at the House - for a very few
minutes. I purposely cut our interview
short for I thought any discussion
would be embarrassing for us all & not
the function of a post box! He was
very nice, thanked me for coming, & said
he would let Baldwin know at once.
I could see he was entirely taken by
surprise at the suggestion. Clearly it
