Dear John,

I read in the Jedburgh Gazette (which is only too apt to
be incredibly misinformed) that at the formal opening of 'Queen
Mary's House on Aug. 28thth, "the Marquiss of Lothian, Mr John
Buchan M.P. & other prominent personalities will be present -
writers of note whose facile pens made the story of Scotlands Queen
of world-wide renown" etc. etc.

If, as I hope, there is a crumb of truth in this statement
will you & Susie come & stay here? It would be a great pleasure.

Katie, I understand, is to receive a gold key upon the occasion
which will be compensation for ravages that burglars have
recently made at Kenry House during our absence.

I am rather less wormlike, I think, since I came here & left
off drugs.
