I looked at the sea coming up yesterday &
wondered in which trawler the old Earl was.
Make my little girl rest & get as
much air as possible. I thought she
looked very tired on Thursday.

'The old Earl' may be a reference to their son, Johnnie, who had a summer job that year (with a friend, John Gorton, from Brasenose) on a Hull fishing trawler.
