Dear Lord Tweedsmuir,

Your very kind letter and aknowledgement
seems to authorise a reply - though
it might appear superfluous to you.
I wish I was younger, and able to avail
myself of the opportunity you offer to
visit the Canadian Rockies under your
auspices - it would be grand! but alas!
it cannot be - I've grown old and heavy
(though not fat!) and whatever adventurous
spirit I had, seems to be all evaporated.

And you are starting now on the
biggest adventure of your life! So
you will understand my respect and
admiration.
