John has been very busy with an index for his
new volume. but it is now finished. & he is
having a holiday from literature.

This letter is presumably from a son, since it is written four months after Robert Rait died. Professor Rennie's address must have been delivered at the funeral or memorial service, which JB could not attend, as he was in Canada in 1936. The fact that this is from a son is confirmed by him calling JB 'Lord Tweedsmuir', since his father would have called him 'John'.
