The air gets colder as we go north.
Tell Joan I am finding great
comfort from her pullover.

Wednesday, July 27

We are now at Fort Norman where the
beautiful blue waters of the Bear River, from Great
Bear Lake, enter the Mackenzie. We all attempted
to climb Bear Rock. I managed to do it
by the face which has never been climbed before. It
was rotten work. Some of our party stuck, and
had to be rescued with ropes!

There may be an aeroplane any hour so I
will close this letter. Love to Joan & Pat &
my dear little man, and all the love in the world
to you, my only darling.

I am very well

John.
