[James], Harriett, and Jefferson, the right & title of
said negroes, for the consideration of fifteen hundred
dollars, to me in hand paid. I do hereby warrant &
defend, against myself, my heirs & executors &
administrators, and all and every person or persons
unto the said Thomas Brazer and his heirs & assigns
forever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and affixed my seal.

State of Alabama } Know all men by these presents that
Shelby County } I, Jasper A. Sargent of the above named
state & county for and in consideration of the sum of of
six hundred Dollars payable as follows, viz; on or before
the [15th]day of March 1823 the sum of two hundred Dol-
-lars; on or before the [15] day of March 1824 to pay on or
before the 15th day of March 1825 to pay said Sargent
the sum of two hundred Dollars all lawful money of the
State of Alabama. The receipt whereof I do hereby ac--
knowledge, have bargained, sold, granted and con--
firmed, and by these presents doth grant, bargain and
confirm to Elias Pitner a certain male negro slave
named George, now running at large, to the only proper
use & behoof of said Pitner his executors, adms. and
assigns forever, And the said Sargent for myself, my
executors, adms, & assigns do and will by these presents
warrant & defend against me, the said Sargent and
against all & every other person or persons, forever.
Shall & will forever warrant, & defend by these presents

and seal this 29th day of August, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred twenty two.

The conditions of the within bill of sale are such that
if the said Pitner fails in making the payments
therein specified that the said Sargent is at liberty to
proceed legally with the virtue of a deed in trust on said
negro which the said Pitner now executes to said Sargent
for the surety of his money. Witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand and seal this 29th day of
