State of Alabama Shelby County Know all men by these presents that we Ben Z. Cross & Barthena Ozley (late Barthena Cost) administrator & administratrix of the Estate of Eli Cost decd. by virtue of a order to us Granted by W.G.Bowden Judge of the a fore said county Cort an the authorising us to sell all the Estate of Eli Cost said decedent which was unsold did on the 1st day of December 1846 offer for sale at publick Auction to the highest bidder a negro man named Jefferson a slave a bout nineteen years old which negro was purchased by John Cost by the Consent of his Guardian T.H.Brasier he being the highest & best bidder for the same sum at seven hundred & sixty six Dollars witness our hands & thios 24th December 1846 Z.Cross a.d.m Barthena [her mark] Ozley
