--BLANK WRIT-- "ALABAMA TIMES" Print--Wetumpka. The State of Alabama. TO ANY SHERIFF OF THE STATE OF ALABAMA--Greeting. You are hereby commanded, without delay, to take Jared Bates

if to be found in your County, and him safely keep, so that you have his body before the Honorable the Judge of the circuit Court, at a Court to be holden for Shelby County, on the second Monday in September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three then and there to answer the state of Alabama of a charge of selling to a certain negro slave a certain commodity to wit Calico without lawful authority so to do as stand charged by the Grand Jury for said County at the Spring Term AD 1843 of the circuit court of said county-- to the damage of said Plaintiff of

Dollars, and have you then and there this Writ, with your endorsement thereon.

Witness Lewis Bowdon Clerk of our Said Court, at Office, this 5th day of April in the year of out Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three and of American Independence the sixty 7th year.

The State of Alabama Circuit Court of Shelby County March Term 1843.

The Grand Jurors for the State of Alabama upon this oath present that Jarard Bates late of the county of Shelby on the tenth day of March 1843 in the county of Shelby did sell calico a commodity to a slave Tom the property of William H Caldwell of Talladaga County without the leave or consent of the master owner or overseer of such slave verbally or in writing expressing the articles permitted to be sold or bartered first obtained against the peace and dignity of the State of Alabama M W Lindsay Atty Genl of Alabama
