Shelby County March Term 1843.

The Grand Jurors for the State of
Alabama upon this oath present that
Jarard Bates late of the county of
Shelby on the tenth day of March 1843
in the county of Shelby did sell
calico a commodity to a slave Tom
the property of William H Caldwell
of Talladaga County without the leave
or consent of the master owner or overseer
of such slave verbally or in writing expressing
the articles permitted to be sold or
bartered first obtained against the
peace and dignity of the State of
Alabama
