To our beloved brethren in the South has been left a legacy of Zeal and devotion, never surpassed, and rare ly equaled in the whole range of American history,. And the memory of his Labors for the Church and his sacrifices in the course of independence will be cherished in the hearts of thou sands, through future generations, after the false glory of worldly triumphs shall have passed away.
A few years more—perhaps much earlier—and I shall meet him and his admirable colleague, Bishop Elliott, as I humbly trust, in the para dise of God. Such too, my dear and afflicted friend, is your own hope, through the merits and sacrifice of our diving Redeemer. Let us cherish it as the only hope that can support the soul, in our pilgrimage of sorrow & toil thorugh this sinful and suffering world, That the Lord may sustain
