E. W. Brady submitted a claim (not included) against the City of Seattle, claiming he was run over by a runaway fire team. The event was to have happened during the burning of the Cudahy Packing Co. Building on Railroad Avenue in February 1894. Byron Phelps, mayor, wrote "The appearance of Mr. Brady is certainly in his favor". The investigating committee did not support Brady's claim. To the Hon Mayor of Seattle Your Comittee to Investigate W E Brady's Claim for alledged Injuries on account of a Runaway team of the fire department at the Burning of the Cudaha Packing Co. Building on R R Avenue in February 1894, Your Committee beg leave to report that after thoroughly Investigating this matter we find no evidence to justify Mr Brady's Claim. MAYOR'S OFFICE Seattle Washington Mch28 1894 Hon Fire Comrs Gentlemen Mr E W Brady West & Pike St. London House states that he was run over by Fire Team about Jany 1894 on Wharf on R R Ave, the time the Cudihee Packing Co, was burned out. That he was at the time ruptured and not now able to perform hard continuous labor but can do work not requiring great strength, such as care of stables or Horses or similar work - I refer the matter to you thinking it might be well to look with his case the appearance of Mr Brady is certainly in his favor.
