541 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE.

Sept 19/84 A Communication is rec'd from Geo. Londen offering to furnish horses for the [right/night?] time at the Columbia Street Engine House. Laid on the table Ordered that the Street Commissioner be & is hereby instructed to purchase a span of Horses necessary harness, wagon & dump cart. Ordered that the Assessment Rolls for Front-Temperance Streets grade & Sidewalk be & are referred to the assessor for amendments under the direction of the Attorney.

Bids Rec'd For the proposed planking of Commercial, Mill & Front Streets from Blaine & Preston. Referred to Street Com tee Ordered that a brake be attached to Hook & Ladder Truck under the direction of the Fire Com tee Ordered that no new applicant for liquor license be allowed to open a Saloon until after his Application has been granted by the Council. Ordered that the present police force be reduced one additional member at the next regular meeting of the Council. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Monday September 22, 1884 at 7 1/2 O'clock P.M. for the special business of considering the matter of planking Commercial, Mill & Front Streets

Sept 22/84 Be it remembered that on this the 22d day of September 1884 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in it's Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment The following Officers are present, Towit: His Honor the Mayor John Leary and Councilmen Geo. F. Frye, Alfred Snyder, E.F. Sox, H.L. yesler, W.G. Latimer, W.V. Rinehart & B.L. Northrup Thereupon the following proceedings are had: And now the Street Com tee make their report that the bid of Blaine & Preston for the planking of Commercial, Mill & Front Streets is too high & recommend that the [quote?] be rejected. Report adopted, bid rejected. Ordered that the Street Commissioner be & is hereby instructed

Sept 22/84 to clear the mud off from Commercial Street and to gravel the same where necessary Ordered that the Street Commissioner be & is hereby instructed to plank Mill Street from the Schwabacher Alley to the East side of Front Street Ordered that the Street Commissioner be & is hereby instructed to gravel where necessary to make passable in Front Street from Mill Street to Blanchard Street which said block is to be planked for a width of 18 feet All the foregoing to be done under the supervision & control of the Street Com tee And now Councilman Clancy takes his seat Ordered that the application of E. Champeaux for a retail liquor license be & is hereby granted Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned
