28 [degrees] Clear S. & S.E. Ther. Tues. Feb. 28th., 1899. Wind. Colder this morning. I went over to see "Jim Hill" & Joseph Stabler at the latter's place. I called at Henderson's (as I returned) for the papers. {?} Ellicott called to see Dora. Edwd walked home from "Fairfield" this afternoon. The roads (except the turnpikes) are in a wretched condition in consequence of heavy hauling over them with little or no frost in the ground: the snow has gone away (so far) very quietly, most of it having gone into the ground and will, I hope replenish the wells & spring-heads, which have been very low for the past year or more. This has been a beautiful winter day, although it is called the first day of spring tomorrow. Edward went in next door again to play "Auction pitch" with the boys.

I went to Fairall's office + the P.O. After noon W. Family + the baby went back to "Fairfield". After supper Edwd went to Mt Airy to meet ing of the "choral class". The sun + wind are drying the mud up very fast, and a few days of such weather would improve the roads greatly.
