Rebecca Miller spoke of a letter she had received from Mrs. Findley soliciting aid for the very worthy object of helping the Ladies aid Association that will be so much needed at the Jamestown exposition and Rebecca was named to receive contributions.

It was announced that Barret Wilson from near Rockville will open a dentists office at Sandy Spring.Will be open Mondays at Mrs. Annie Wetheralls

Showed Mrs. Cornelia Stablers much petted driving horse be whipped when he is permitted to get loose and is difficult to catch. Unanimously no, and the annimated discussion that followed would make a stranger think the "H.[?]. was the author of "Black Beauty" and it was in a subdued undertone we heard several smart drivers venture to assert that they still carry a whip just for emergencies. John Bentley would [?] & not whip. Edward Thomas has a horse that alway needs a whip very much and because thereof he is worth at least 250 just for his women to drive.

Do you advise John Bentley to replant red raspberries this late - yes but got plants from a northern nursery.

forty pricked up their ears. But we old timers have heard mad dogs bark before and are not quite so fearful of their bite. However all conceded that it would be terrible for a worthless [cur] to bite one of our curly headed grandchildren. And if a much prized pet dog should be so disrespectful as to snip a member of the family he should be punished or even tied up for a few days. Why hydrophobia seems less dreadful taken from a pet colley than from a detested [cur] did not transpire. The dog law now claiming much attention, if passed, showed reduce the number of vagabond dogs immensely Fred Stablers plan to keep all dogs tied up 99 years was not put to vote.

400 meeting May 27 07

Among the visitors at Brooke Place, at our 400th meeting were: Mrs. Findley & Mrs. trells of Rockville. Mrs Norris Ellen Farquhar, Katherine Brooke, Helen Thomas, Gertrude Massey, Mrs Banes, Emilie Coulter, Jean Coulter, Jamie Smith & R Brooke Smith of Mamie, Miss Thompson, Tarlton Stabler, Mrs. Eva Jackson of Leesburg & Alice Brooke.

An application for membership was received from Mr & Mrs Fussell. Part of the forethought com: was absent and one who was present pleads too much interest in visiting grand children to have any forethoughts. But repeated questions brought out [?] lore that will benefit all who heard. Mrs. Haviland gave wise and witty remarks on chickens & Wm Moore advises planting sweet corn every 10 days until July 20th & would set out tomato plants as late as July 4th. E.P. Thomas advised the use of Planet Jr garden drill. Kate Thomas thinks fine line will prevent fleas from injuring sweet corn as it comes out of the ground.

A luxurious supper served by handsome women occupied us for an hour- Our appetites way some day decline with advancing age, but our appreciation of "H.[Y.]" suppers continually increases unless the remarks heard by the sec. are big white fibs.

The walk to the yard and garden was enjoyed and we found notable improvements since our last visit.

The wise men left the big stove [?] black lie low, and spent excess of energy in guessing whether the Doctor crawled through the little hole in the platform of the 70 foot windmill when he goes up to oil it or whether he climbs around outside in the dizzy space.

The out buildings were neat and showed no indications of special preparation for this function.

In the house again and Mrs. Findley gave us an interesting account of the [?] and its great needs. A com. was appointed, to assist her in her good work financially. Lou Brook M.E. Gilpin, Asa Stabler & Arthur Stabler constitute the committee.

Questions

Are raspberries, currants, & gooseberries blooming this season? Very scantily & many bushes have been killed.

Mrs. Banes wants to know how to make a [lawn] now? Fred Stabler would wait until fall to make it.

Arthur Stabler reports that George Jones sharpens & adjusts lawn mower satifactorily for one dollar each.

Rebecca Miller offers to give away some beautiful kittens, whereupon several others

spoke up generously making similar offers. This conditions of things would indicate that the single sisters are just now considering other propositions rather than pet cats and tea.

Those burdened with an accumulation of magazines are told to send them to the Salvation Army.

Ellen Farquhar is advised that she can only get rid of Diehard grass by digging up the tufts.

Carrie Brookes currant bushes have leaves & no fruit. All of Edward Bentleys bushes died except one. Much discussion San Jose scale charged with much injury to small fruits.

Rose Gilpin wants other than hard oil finish for pine trimmings. Abina recommends [Japalak] as perfect.

Asa Stabler is troubled with the ubiquibous mole - will Moore uses traps some place salt herring in the [?] If any body will set the traps and herring for Asa he will give half the catch.

Mrs. Morris gave experience in raising strawberries. Fertilized heavily with hen house manure. Sharpless and Jersey Queen were the varieties grown.

Mrs. Haviland dont want the "H.[?]., to presume on mr. Havilands louder heartedness and dump all the surplus cars on them
