In his younger days Mr. Johnson was esteemed a prodigy at performing on the violin, but his pastor persuaded him that fiddlers go to fiddlers green when Gabriel sounds his horn instead of to Heaven, whereupon Mr. Johnson stopped absolutely the pursuit of music and turned his attention to science and religion especially to astronomy getting far away from the [?] & its imps and as near to Heaven as possible -Jordan Stabler says smithfield hams retail from 25 to 28 cts per [?] -Mrs. Willson was referred to C.F Brooke to secure a market for hams when ripe -The general scarcity of most [fruits] this year induces many housekeepers

Some people are just replanting and claim that the season being two weeks late The beans will do all right. -Albina asks how soon little turkeys should be turned loose. Now next to chickens. children. and cats. The H. I. knows more about turkeys than any thing else in the world and what was lacking before they have learned this season. Kate Thomas would let little turkeys follow the hen as soon as they can jump over the top of the pen. Her pen was built by miss Martha and is 3 ft. high. Sarah miller goes by same rule. Her pen is 2 ft high. Some one else who had lowest jumpers of course had a pen only a foot high to suit them. But with due general, report all agreed that never in their experience, whether the little follows jumped high or jumped low had they ever exhibited such a fell determination to jump into eternity as they have this season. And when some have lost half, many 3/4 and Edward Bentley all but one & several have none left to tell the tale. The sec. is puzzled to know the percent supposed to be left and

whether Mr. Bentley will remember us all at Christmas if his one turkey does not turn up its hoes before that festive occasion. One new remedy is added to our turkey [materia] [medica]. Airy Seemes. The shape of Va. & Nelie Stabler are authority for asserting that one grain of black pepper is sure cure for all their ills. It cuts going and coming and only kills when you have more turkeys than you want. With this remedy properly administered no pepper is needed in seasoning at Thanksgiving. -Nelie will remove 25 yr old heater & have open fireplace. will the chimney need remodelling? yes to some extent but as stephen Holland built the chimney it is not likely much will be amiss. she was advised to use terra cotta lining in the top of the chimney. -Sarah Miller asks if any man woman or child has a rat & mouse proof corn house? There are many rat proof houses but mice are bound to get in while hauling corn from the field Tarlton says mesh wire lining is useful in corn houses -All are advised to cease cutting asp. the middle of June when peas are ready to use. -To Ben Millers query in regard to chick weed in his lawn. the H. I. has made him a com. of [?], with full

powers to act and experiment in eradicating the weed, and the sec. has 71 cents of the societies many seeking investment which he takes the liberty of offering Benjamin as a prize for a trip around the world if he succeeds in absolutely destroying his whole supply of the chick before the 71 cents have flown -Benj Miller has lately been to new york & has seen certified milk retail at 15 cts per qt. It was not sterilized but simply clean. When a line is straight geometry says it can't be straighter, but when milk is clean scientists and the Health department have shown that it can and must be cleaner.

Edward Thomas says the only man he ever knew to make a profit on certified milk was a woman and she struggled with two long years of losses before turning the corner of luck. Edward says corporations & millionaires may have plants so large and complete as to overcome difficulties and make expenses and possibly a profit. Jordan Stabler described a machine for milking cows by electricity

Imagine Tom Carter on Town Hall on Dick Frizzle Frazzel touching a button and taking a nap in the early dawn while the buckets foam over. -In discussing the cleanliness of

milkers several present had champions of cleanliness to offer. Ben Millers man changes his exterior garments once a week if necessary - John Thomas has a man who bathes once a month whether the bath is needed or not. Ben also spoke of a party who keeps gold fish in the bath tub all winter as it is not used during that season. Fred spoke of one who goes to the river every Aug. for a yearly bath, but Dr. Farqhar has caps the climax as his man takes a bath once in 2 1/2 years & it always gives him a cold there. -Jordan Stabler says Dr. Wileys receipt for strawberry jelly is glucose & timothy seed. He also says strawberry jelly is not popular with the public.

A letter was read from Samuel S & [?] L Bond tendering their resignations A recommendation therein to substitute Mary T. & Joseph Bond as members during the absence of the former was cheerfully complied with.
