Palo Alto, Cal., Nov. 23, 1901.

Mr. Peterson,

Dear Sir:

The bearer, Mr. Brummett from Arkansas, is very
anxious indeed to find occupation in order to earn the necessary
means to permit him to go through a course at the University. If
he passes an examination and is admitted, could you not give him
work in the Museum in order to allow him to earn a little some-
thing as soon as possible.

Yours respectfully,

Jane L. Stanford

[hand written across bottom front of letter]

This is the only man Mrs. Stanford ever asked me to
put to work. He proved to be a thief & rank imposter.
