Dear Mother and Daddy -

I have just come back from a three hour geology lab. It consisted of hiking all over the hills and breaking rocks to see what kind they were. It was all very tiring; I had to look all over the campus for a hammer to use at the great occasion, but was unsuccessful. I also found it necessary to wear a pair of jeans, which I had to borrow; so I wish that you would send me a pair because I am afraid I am going to need them quite often.

I guess you want to know about all the social activities. There is still quite a bit of it. There is a dance given by the soldiers every Friday night and usually a dance

given by one of the boys groups every Saturday night. Of all the boys that I have been out with since I have been here,I like the Freshmen men best, although I have met one awfully nice A.S.T.P.

On Friday night the 14th, I went to a dance at one of the boy's houses with a boy who was a post-graduate and business editor of the school paper. His name was Bill Connelly and was awful. The only fun of it was that in fifteen minutes I arranged seven blind dates. During those fifteen minutes I ran a marathon.

The next night I went to a dance at the women's club house with George. It was a wonderful dance and I had a super time.

Last night I went to the soldiers' dance and afterwards to the movies with a boy named Fargo Wells. He is an awfully nice boy; his personality is somewhat

like John Archer's but he is much better looking. I think he is from Idaho, but his mother went to Marlborough. His name is the funniest thing I have ever heard and when I told Miss Bradley, the director of Roble and the most wonderful person you could ever know, she nearly died laughing and said that she'd leave it to me to find someone with a name like that.

The two other boys that I will probably go out with are a Leo Schuster and a Jack Ficks. Leo is from El Paso and the son of one of the most important men there according toSally Sutch. He is very intelligent and already very popular, although he didn't know anyone when he came here. He was elected president of his house,

and is the type of person that will really make something of himself; however I'm afraid that he is awfully young, but I am going to cultivate him because I think that he would be a good one for Marjorie to know and when she comes up I am going to try and get her a date with him.

The other boy, Jack Ficks, is from Spokane, Washington and is very handsome but does not have very much personality.

If Bill Connelly is an example of the older boys I don't want to have anything to do with them. I also know now why the girls said that you didn't very often go out with the soldiers here. I was talking to some of them the other night and they didn't want to be tied down to the Stanford honor system. Of course all the regular Stanford Students have to abide by it but the army can vote whether they want it or not. It just made me boil when they said they were going to vote down

the honor system, because if they can't be officers without cheating, they certainly have no business being officers. I did, however, meet one awfully nice one, Don Blue, who was the chairman of the soldiers' entertainment committee and with whom I danced last night.

I don't see how you can have anymore questions about my social life after my lengthy composition.

I received the box mother sent and the books. I will ask about the electricity cycle for the clock, but I certainly need one because this one loses from 15 minutes to half an hour every night which is very inconvenient in the morning. I will also see about the guest house, but I doubt if it is still going; I haven't heard
