Dear Daddy,

It was certainly nice to see you & introduce you to Shey-poo. We had a nice day down there. Maybe the next time we get together, you can stay longer. We're pretty well tied to Palo Alto for the next six months, at least, until we accumulate some vacation time. Jim is getting pretty tired, since his last vacation was our honeymoon, but we're looking forward to another trip like that, a real getaway, from jobs, part-time & full-time. We do plan to go through Beverly Hills, though, & of course we'll bring She, who will be closer to a traveling age by then. We'd certainly be glad to see you & mother if you could break away for a weekend in Palo Alto.

She is just on the verge of taking her first step. She stands alone, & her balance is good enough to allow her to juggle a toy while doing it. When we hold our hands out to her,

just beyond her reach, she thinks a minute, & then dives. She pushes her stroller all around the house. Since she hasn't learned to back it up yet, we have to turn it for her when she hits an obstacle. She also likes to have it overturned so that she can spin the wheel. We hope that this indicates inherited mechanical aptitude. She's cutting a new batch of teeth now, which keeps her pretty cranky & tired. Hopefully, when all or one of them breaks through she'll give more thought to walking. I can hardly wait to see what she'll look like with upper teeth.

Jim is at school tonite, absorbing the intricacies of electronics math. It's almost time for him to come home, now, so he's probably trying to stay awake by now, during this third & last hour. It's hard to sit down in a classroom & concentrate right after a meal. My problem was always post-lunch classes. Now it's post-lunch meetings. Fortunately, we don't have too many of

them. When we do, they are a tremendous waste of time, since we usually have to go to another meeting, & then receive a directive to clarify the text of the first meeting. Bureacracy & red tape are a bearable liability of county employment, since the supervision is light-handed, & we get all the holidays the banks get, & a few more. I really like the job, though, since it is a good general beginning in the field that can lead to anything I choose or that is convenient to our future plans. For a bottom rung, the pay isn't bad, either.

Sat. Jim's sister is expecting a baby momentarily, so our niece Kathy, age 8 1/2 is spending the weekend & Mon. with us. We were all set to go to the P.O. with this letter & on to the grocery store, but they got crankey & fell asleep after two slurps of milk. We also have to go by St. Ann's for Easter choir practice, which is going to be

complicated with such a sleepy Poo. Kathy has 3 1/2 siblings, so she's a big help.

Our hi-fi is really turning into a lot of fun. We built it ourselves, & still have a few more things to complete. Almost every week, I get another record, so we're accumulating quite a collection. We're also piling up some fine classics through the RCA Record Club.

We're just about ready to start the ball rolling to buy this house. For the last few months, it's been so close we could almost taste it, but now it's only a matter of about 2 months. It's really been worth the wait, though, because now we know exactly what we want to do to the place, & the order it's best to do it in. We have also located deals on all our building materials, & will be able to get everything at cost.

Time to go. Love, Marcia
