Little sleep and lots of buntting. Reached Niles at 8 A.M. Morning is clear and frosty. Uncle Henry takes the passenger train to Chicago.
Leave Niles at 9:40 A.M. Reach Michigan City at 12 M. Leave Michigan City at 5 P.M.

Thursday, October 19, 1893
Arrived at Joliet 2 A.M. Warm and star light. Car door open all night. Finished repairing car door at 4 A.M. Delayed at Joliet until 6:10 P.M. Went to Chicago at 9:35 A.M. [Mamma?], Delia, Louie, Grandpa and Grandma were late for the California train which started at 2 P.M. and which I came back to Joliet on
The day is pleasant and Chicago is full of people. Left Joliet at 6:10 P.M. and had a very rough and fast ride across the state of Illinois.

Morning pleasant. Saw the praries in the gray dawn of morning. Crossed the Mississippi at 6 A.M. at Ft. Madison
