The river is about one half mile wide and very quiet. The bridge has eight strands. Left Fort Madison at 9 A.M for a twenty mile run through the south eastern corner of Iowa. This part of Iowa is very hilly and is said to be the poorest part of the state. The northern part of Missouri is very, very rough, consisting of hills and valleys covered with scrub oak.

From Floyd to Kansas City we ride along the river fringed with trees, shrubs and rocks which presents a very pretty scene in the bright light. After looking till I am tired I retire.

Just before reaching Kansas City we passed through the Jesse James head-quarters.
It is too dark to see anyhting of it.
