Carribean Sailing diary

We went back into our cabin via the hatches + my shoulders barely made it through. Yay.

Mike finished his book on power while I lay on the bed, and he read me the last paragraph.

10pm to bed, but I have bizarre "London Public TV movie" dreams again likely due ot the AC&C I pilfered from Mike. But I stay in bed later than Mike in the morning due to the second Temazepam that I took at 5:30 AM, so I rested well after that.

Saturday, Dec 7 2002

7:45 Get up + wrote up yesterday evening. 8 am Join the others for breakfast + chit chat. Good snorkling on the other side of the bay, with good light. Even saw stingray on the way to the rocky shore at 30' down.

11am Get ready to leave 11:15 Begin long voyage to Norman. Lots of tacking. 1:30 Turkey sandwich. 2:30 Pull into the Bight of Norman Island. Attach to a buoy. 2:45 Go snorkeling at the Caves. Lots of fush, but crud + twigs too 4:15 Pina colada + margarita. Gazpacho. Mike makes a plate of hor d'oerves. I clean up after drinks + snacks. More chit chat. 5:00 Nap on the deck awhile, as Mike naps in the room. 7pm Dinner on an old boat in the bay. Good Caesar + shrimp + pie.

8:30 Start Mike's book "Kinds of Power," Chapter on ambition was especially meaningful to me. 10p Bed. Dreams about "manipulation."

Sunday, Dec 8, 2002

Fun playing with Mike. Breakfast. Pack. Motor back to Roadtown. Refuel. Showers. Buy BYI Yacht Club shirts for Mike + me. Tour a catamaran inside. Layout seemed strange after being on a long narrower boat. Taxi to ferry. Take a walk. 12:30 Ferry to Gorda, seeing east end of Tortola + Beef Is again, as we did on Tuesday. 1:15 Arrive on Gorda. Get into taxi, stopping first at place for driver's license.

Taxi takes us several miles over high hills with great views to Leverick Bay.

Unpack a bit + take a nude dip. Unpack some more + sit by pool. Read more of Mike's book on power. Drinks + dinner at Pusser's. Talk with Peter + John at pool. Mike + Ron play Wizards card game. 9:30 Bed. Very noisy crickets + wind. Thank goodness for earplugs. _____________________________________________ Monday Dec 9, 2002

7:30 Wake up + play with Mike. Peter makes cheese + onion omelet. Ron has a sore throat. Regroup. Pills for the week. Write in here. 10 am Get ready to go to the Baths.

It's much warmer on land than on the boat, even already this morning.

10:30 Leave for Spanish town, and stop in at "The Mall," which has a Dwe Shop, so while Ron was buying fins, I bought 4 placemats for M + K and a copy of the Virgin Islands Cruise book which was on the sail boat. Also I got some pocket guides to Reef Fish and Reef Creatures

11:15 Wander around rest of the mall. Head to The Baths. After parking, walk down a trail to the beach. The water didn't have many fish, but the rock formations made up for it. I didn't have a life vest, but I stayed afloat as long as I kept air in my lungs. Also there were several underwater rocks on which I could sit or stand. Nevertheless, I was still a litle nervous about being in deep water not knowing really where I was heading. I kept up with Mike more or less, and eventually came to another beach.
