SF/Silicon Valley balances so well.
It's somewhat sunny so I don't get so depressed, but still rainy enough to allow adequate introspection. It's close to LA/OC, when I want sun. Not far from SEA when I want fun + beauty.
Central West Coast. "Living on the West Coast"
Close to all the places I've spent 2+ years each in: ABQ, SEA, LA
Brisk/Sunny SF weather is ideal for work. ABQ I is culturally and meteorologically equidistant between SEA/LA. Can't just fly between SEA to LA and expect to be in the right mood.
Why else consider SF/Sil Val
Want to raise a family.

It's California, Driver's license, Car License, Presence
Big, classy, dramatic city
VERY,VERY GAY.
Nice Geography
I want to STAY with Microsoft.
So I have some connect with Seattle.
I don't want to give it up entirely
I want to keep Anhalt apt
Parents are here.
Summers are excellent. Convenience of Madison Park + Greenlake with MSoft
And then the Seattle connection has meaning.
OK to leave stuff in Seattle since I want new stuff in SF.
Perhaps in SF/ Sil Val I can manage acquired software development for Microsoft
