I wish to acknowledge the receipt of your letter to alumni in the Military Service.
It is indeed with a sense of pride that one views Stanford's efforts to obtain and make available all possible information on educational opportunities for veterans. Although your letter did not apply in my case since I do not plan on continuing my education,

it was a pleasure to hear from you and to learn that you are ahead of most of the larger universities in attempting to find the answers to many questions concerning the needs of those who will return for further study after the war.
Your good wishes served as an admirable substitute for the traditional "hello" which it is impossible to exchange at the present time. They helped to bring Africa that much closer to home and shortened the days which weigh pretty heavily here at times.
