[Saturday 10 March 1883]

Working all day at a dress
for Edith, trying to make the
hours fly by. We are all
beginning to mope, having no
gentlemen in the evenings. We
go to bed almost directly after
tea, not knowing what else
to do. It is too hot and the
insects are too numerous for
us to sit & work or read in doors,
so after a half an hour or so
sitting in the dark on the
verandah, we one by one
retire to our beds. Very hot all
day.
