came on at ½ past 11 & camped
on a waterhole for lunch at 2.
We left again at 4 & arrived in
camp at about ½ past 5 having
come 21 miles in all. It has been
very hot again all day. Had a
delightful bathe in a lovely rocky
hole this evening & did some
washing. This camp is 'Grannite [Granite]
Creek from the immense rocks of
that stone all round.

Wednesday 8th

Left camp at ½ past 9 & stopped for lunch
at a number of small waterholes about
11 miles on. The road was very heavy so
we had to come slowly. Arrived at Yam
Crk at 4, 6 miles from the lunch camp.
This is a nice cool looking house (the
telegraph Station kept by Mr. Kelsey & a
young brother. They pressed us to stay
all night so we are doing so. Our steamer
leaves a day earlier than we expected
& we have 90 miles still to go, so we must
make great haste. Very hot all day.
Yam Crk or the Shackle as it is
properly called, has only the
narrow track through it &
has 4 houses. As far as we could see
Public house, Police Station, Gold wardens
& telegraph Station. The road was
