4th. day Broadcasting. (con.).

Tuesday, January 17th
Announcement at beginning of second broadcast at 6.30 a.m.

We are now going to continue the description, started between 7.45 and 8.0 a.m. of the
third Test Match between England and Australia at Adelaide, through the courtesy of the manufac-
turers of Gillette razors and blades.

The Gillette manufacturers employ some of the finest engineers and metallurgists in their
laboratories continually conducting research work to improve the quality of their products. It
was in their laboratories that the principle of the slotted blade was evolved; by this method
it is possible to use a higher tempered steel and one which will take a keener edge than ever
before. Yet this can be done without the risk of the blade cracking in the holder as would
have happened with the old three hole blades.

If you have not tried the new slotted Gillette blade, buy a packet today and prove to
yourself that it gives a keener shave and lasts longer than any blade you have previously
tried. Make sure you ask for the slotted Gillette blades which fit all types of Gillette razors

It was in warm, close weather and on what still appeared to be a good wieket that Wall
and O'Reilly opened the Australian bowling against the overnight batsmen, Jardine and
Wyatt. The batting continued to be extremely cautious but after 20 minutes play, during
which time 6 runs had been added, Wyatt wes brilliantly caught by Wall in attempting to
turn a ball fron O'Reilly to leg. It was a one-handed catch taken low down. Thia loss
did not encourage the batenen to hit out and it was only after 169 minutee play that
the 100 went up, Jardine's share being 29.

Woodfull was using his bowlers cleverly making frequent changes, and eventually
secured another success when just before lunch Allen, who had taken Wyatt's place, was
out lbw. to Grimmett. The score at lunch, after 220 minutes batting, was 130 for 3.

At lunch the news with regard to Oldfield was that he is improving but is not yet
well enough to play. It was also learnt that Paynter's ankle was worse and that it was
unlikely that he would be able to bat. On the resumption the slow struggle was carried
on, only 11 runs being added in 20 minutes, of which Hammond claimed 9. Shortly after
150 runs appeared on the board and when Jardine passed his Individual 50 he was out
lbw to Ironmonger. He had been batting no less than 254 minutes for his 56 runs and
al though it was a painfally slow Innings, it was in the circunstances untoubtedly very
valuable.

Leyland now joined Hammond and began brilliantly by striking a couple of fours off
