1240 Your time must be quite taken up now how unpleasant is it to have such vile characters for Servants as they of whom you write. however I hope [indicipherable] allowance will do good. It is no wonder that you are often [indicipherable]. For what with business, Love, and study. You cannot have a minute to spare. I rejoice my dear Thomas to know that you will I hope shortly / have her on whom your heart is tied. Long may you be blessed in each other I do hope she will love me. for to be the wife of my very dear brother and not love her would be almost an impossibility therefore shall live in hope that we shall be mutually affectionate

/Sister Mary is better and better and little RIchard well. Our dear Bro' James makes a long stay. I feel quite anxious to see him. Write me first opportunity. Give my love to Eliza and thank her for me for her last day. I will write on wednesday next [indicipherable] ie. [courtship?] I hope you will excuse [indicipherable] [from right side of the paper] 1241 as I have written in such haste. I think then you say "I should never suppose so, by the length." Cannot help it now. Good night love give our affectionate love to all. 2nd best for yourself. Remember me at a Throne of Grace. Yours very affectionately Lucy Hassall

Remember me in Christian bonds to Mrs Walker.

[note written by a different hand] x this is evidently one of Mrs S Hassall's children of whom thomas was especially fond. It cannot be taken literally as thomas was still unmarried
