at a loss of 10 percent, the rate
of Exchange here against the Colony.
I am unwilling to incur this loss
and know not what to do. I
have a great desire to see home
before I quit Europe, probably for
ever and should like to visit the South
of Spain. I should be able to
effect everything so as to embark for
the Colony in April. My wish was
to have done so in January, and
I am still quite uncertain between
the two. The Guestiers quite disappointed
me about wine coopers from Bordeaux

spoken to Veitch to look out for me. You may
therefore calculate upon my sending out a suitable
man, perhaps two upper & under the latter for
the kitchen garden. It is evident that Blake with
all his good qualities, cannot continue much
longer. Every one here complains now of servants
but it seems to me that they are really spoiled,
both masters & men, by over luxury & refinement.
