This material forms part of the Royal Anthropological Society of Australasia records, 1885-1914, with additional material, 1921-1926, 1991, and papers of Alan Carroll, 1886-1892, held at the State Library of New South Wales

This folder contains:Survey returns, mostly completed by local police officers in 1899-1900. Some lists annotated with dates published in the Journal, 1901-1903being part of the Society's 'survey forms and correspondence received ... regarding Aboriginal place names, 1899-1903, 1921-1926'.

*Mikelymulga Tres struck by lightning    Bibil White leaved box tree

(given name on account of being) a Rushy Swamp

Terreteartup Hill noted for the quantity of silver wattle

Gigeymedaberup (name given on account of being) a native speared there

Yongerquagerup (name given on account of being) a good place for kangaroos

Yallatup A great place for teatrees

Knamerilup named on account of it being a great place for ferns

Curtmerup named on account of it beeing a good place for bulbs called cuties

Knooterngerup named on account of having a fresh water soak

Noolicup Named on account of having a quantity of red gum trees which the gum runs out of on the ground making it look like blood

Keechipup named on account of it being a good Spearwood thicket - called woorie - (Mongron - the best sort of spearwood)

Quindelariup named on account of having several clear hills

Cockelup named on account of a native having got burnt there

Knulitup named on account of it being a very rocky place

Yelgicup named on account of it being a favourite place for boomer kangaroo to lay down

Coolibullup named on account of being infested with the kangaroo ticks

Carbinup a freshwater swamp named on account of having plenty of turtles in it

Paraaucup named on account of it being a good place to get Wilgey (wilgey war paint)

Pendicup named on account of it being a great place to get red flowers called bottle brushes

Goblebackinglup name given to a creek which runs at the foot of Mount Barker Hill (The belly of the Hill)

Backenearup named on account of being a good place for water

Booriboonup named on account of being a large hill

Yerreminup named on account of a large ironstone hill being there

Ongerup name given on account of running water

Cimejup the name given to a salk lake because it's covered with large rushes

Yeulup a place where kangaroo lay about in the dust

Boyup name given on account of having a smokey appearance

Camphallup name given to a big pool of water not running

Neibichup name given to a creek because it contained a quantity of fresh water fish called coblers

Legerup a name given to a place where kangaroos are supposed to have been dancing in the early days

Quanicup a salt lake with a clear patch of water in the centre surrounded with rushes was at one time a favourite place for swan.

Mulgarnup named on account of being a cold place

Ninacoogerup name given on account of it being a place where a number of creeks meet and run together.
