The Chief Secretary - Sydney

Sir,

I have the honor to respectfully solicit your assistance in collecting the aboriginal names of places with their meaning.

With that end in view I forward under separate cover 200 printed Circulars, which if I may, I would suggest should be sent to the Inspectors, and Sub Inspectors of Police in the Country Districts, with a covering note requesting them to complete and return at their earliest convenience.

The Society intends arranging the names in lexicographical order and publishing them in their Journal, thus making a permanent record of them for future Generations.

I might [add] that a similar application was made to and granted by the Chief Secretary for Queensland.

I have the honor to be

Sir

Your Ob'd't [Obedient] Servant
