Elk April 28 1853

Col R.C. Ballard {Warrenton, Miss.} Dear sir yours came to hand day before yesterday with it contents duly noted I am giting a Long very well at presant to say I have worked my corn over the second time and will finish cuting out the cotton to day or soon to morrow - and have a bout one hundred & fifty acres of cotton. The corn is only tolerable and worms are kiling of it very fast more particular that that I planted over But with the quanty of old corn I have on hand I hope to make enough to do the place Besides I have panted some oats The negros are all well exsept some few cases of bowel complaint I am attacted with myself at presant

New Orleans April 28th 1853

Col R C Ballard Warrenton Miss Dr Sir We have your favor of 26th Inst with dft as stated for $628.81 which when paid will be placed to your credit.

The salt referred to, was shipped on saturday last 23d Inst, by the steamer Natchez and we hope it arrived in good time.

Our grocer promises to do better in future and you may rest assured we will give your orders our personal attention. Would not on any account have had this thing to have occurred, but as you say, tis useless to fret over a thing that cannot be helped. You may take our word for it you shall have no cause to complain in future. We wish you to accept a small box of cigars sent by this Boat the Frank Lyon and if you like the quality, please let us know and we will send more of the same. The box is tied up in a strong yellow cover and the paper sealed.

We bought the molasses of Dudley and Nelson, a house that enjoys good standing, but had never confined our purchases to any particular concern when we thought we had intentional injustice done us NC&Co

Louisville April 29, 1853.

Dear Col. {Warrenton, Warren Co, Miss}

Your kind favor of the 12th inst. only came to hand this morning and found us well. Your family and niece, in good health and I hope this may find you well. We heard from Mr. Armstrong that your health was not good but I hope your indisposition is slight and that you are well before now.

I have my children all at home and through the assistance of Louise we are getting along as well as I could expect under the circumstances. The children go to school and seem to be learning very well.

Ella is still going to her teacher and seems to be improving very fast and is a very smart sprightly girl indeed.

The young ones are fat and hearty and enjoy very fine health. They talk a great deal about their Pa and ask often when he is coming home.

I have been thinking if I could get a good woman, an elderly Lady to take charge of my little family it would be the
