Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Vaughn for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty seven pounds ten shillings to me in hand paid, the Receipt of w.h is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain sell and deliver unto Christopher Barbee one negro boy slave named Jesse; to have and to hold the said negro boy slave to the said Christopher Barbee to him and his Heirs and assizes forever I do hereby for myself and my Heirs warrant and for ever defend against the Claim or Claims of any Person or Persons whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this
