Same -- PM cloudy -- Rep Nat Convention at Phila nominated McKinley for President and Rooseveldt for Vice Pres't and adjourned sine die -- Drew out $30 -- Bed 11 -- This was the longest day of the year.

Saturday June 23
Clear & warmer -- Big picnic, 4 coaches -- about 300 people -- Episcopal church and 4th ward school. Va. came down this AM & went up to Robinson's Ranch, but soon tired of the facilities -- lack of shade, water etc -- Carson with its beautiful trees, shrubbery etc -- a good picnic town anyhow -- Evening the band gave its third evening concert in Capitol Park -- all the town for audience -- Letter to wife by evening train -- Bed 12 --

Telegraphic news in all the papers says that recently accumulating troubles with China result in their now trying to drive out all foreigners, especially missionaries -- and declaring war against all other nations of the world -- strong fighting already started in with Russia and other powers --

Sunday June 24
Same -- Carson club of bicycles, together with lots of friendly Carsonites went to Reno in special, for big 50 mile relay race with Reno club, at racetrack -- got beaten 1 1/2 miles -- Carson did -- Weather fine, fare $1 for round trip -- so everybody had splendid time -- Miss Ada Robert, who with her mother were with the excursion told me she "met with my son" (Alfred) -- Bed 12 -- By evening mail I sent 2 page letter to Bessie, directed to Eunice and her care -- Public schools of Reno closed for vacation Friday, giving wife Mary a rest --

Pat Reddy, well known & very prominent criminal lawyer, etc, died at San Francisco yesterday morning --
