may be agreed upon, merely acting as your representatives, he to remain at Washington & we to attend to getting the proofs up in s uch shape as he may direct-all this however can be discussed at length when ever see you.

I am Dear Sir

Yours Truly

Henry A. Barling

P.S. Of course any commissions received from claims which we represent for the Estate we showed turn in to it as we get paid outside of that, but it would benefit you that much, & they are large.

Mr. Krebs has just been in again & says of course any arrangement with them, if made, you will be considered, & if we can make as favorable terms or a little better, with them than elsewhere, it is well to consider it. B.

New York Decem 17 1870

W. W. Crapo Esqr

New Bedford

Dear Sir,

I have your favor of 16 Inst. & note that your committee do not favor the arrangement as proposed when Mr. Krebs & myself saw you in New Bedford, & that their opposition to it leads you to consider the negotiations at an end.

I have shown this letter to Mr. Krebs & he begs that I say to you that his firm would very much like to control these New Bedford claims & if arrangements can be made with other parties with whom they in treatyhave been operating they will be inclined to name a much lower Commission, the claimant paying actual disburments.

Mr. Krebs will write you Monday.

I am Truly Yours

Henry A. Barling
