The transaction ^of Whetcroft^ with your father and
Mr Lewis is most execrably usurious. I have
urged Mr L. often myself, and I am told by Gene-
ral Minor, that he has often urged him, to take
depositions. They are absolutely necessary to
contradict the appearance of fairness on the face
of the bond and deed, and to counteract the plea
of the Harwoods, that they were ignorant of the
nature of the debt. To this ought to be added,
if it be true, that Whetcroft was insolvent, when
Mr. Throckmorton's and Mr. Lewis's debts were
assigned to the Harwoods by Whetcroft. I am
afraid that the decree in the county court for
the dismission of Mr. Throckmorton's bill, pray-
ing for relief, may operate injuriously, if it
be known; but as yet they seem to have en-
tertained no idea of it.
But whatever testimony can
be collected, ought to be sent to the clerk's
office, before the 22d. day of May next. If
commissions be wanted, I will forward them,
immediately upon being notified.
