My Dear Mrs Alvord

Your esteemed favour of the
17th [Just?] with letter enclosed for Mr Alvord
came to hand this morning. I shall write you,
to day or tomow, when I will inclose yours.
I am pleased to hear [word crossed out] favourable report
of [our?] Young Capt [Howels?], this being his
^first^ voyage commander (exepting a short voyage
in the Pacific from Valparaiso to San Francisco
and back) I felt somewhat anxious to hear
of their safe arrival, I have no doubts as to
the voyage being benificial to the health of
your good Husband—and that they will
travel their contemplated route and return
not only improved in health but in
mind— Your letter of which you speak
I think was received and forwarded to
St Petersburg— Any news we may get
shall be promptly given you. I expect
to get letters by the next or succeeding
