Foulweather & New Dungenness L. Sts.

Stoves wanted for.

1 Enclosure

March 5th 5

Sir:

Maj.Michler, Engineer of the 13th L.H. District, writes to this office under date of February 19th, that the keeper at Foulweather light-station wants a box stove and that the keeper at New Dungenness wants a cook stove.

When you visit these stations, you are authorized, if you find the stoves necessary (underlined) to furnish them; but you will exercise your own judgement in the matter rather than consult the wishes of the keepers; as the needs (underlined) of the Service rather than the desire of keepers are to be regarded in such matters. A copy of Maj. Michler's letter

a change would be made in his case. But as the principal keeper has already been transferred to another station it is deemed best to take no further action in the matter than to request you to reprimand the first assistant keeper Cook, and second assistant keeper Dutcher, the one for absenting himself from his station without leave from his chief three times; and the other for having absented himself from his station without leave from his chief five times, and be informed that it is expected that they will not hereafter leave their stations without permission; and that further infringement of that rule on their part, will subject them, when report of the fact is received at this
