Sir William Gleadowe Newcomen

In the Name of God Amen

I Sir William Gleadowe Newcomen of the City of Dublin Bart being of sound and disposing mind do make and publish this my last will and testament whereas by my marriage settlement the sum of five thousand pounds has been and now stands charged on my manor and lands of Carrigless in the County of Longford for the portions of my daughters and and younger children to be divided amongst them in such shares and proportions as I shall by deed or by my last will and testament appoint and whereas the lands of Dromin in the said County of Longford the Estate of the Right Honorable Lady Vic[o]untess Newcomen my wife stand charged by a subsequent deed with the further sum of Eight thousand pounds as portions to my Daughters & younger children to be divided amongst them in such shares and proportions as I shall also by deed or by my last will and testament appoint & whereas my Daughter the Honorable Teressa Lady Turner having been amply provided for by me on her /Intermarriage

Intermarriage with Sir Charles Turner Baronet duly released all claim and demand which she had or might have to any Share or proportion of the said respective sums of five thousand pounds and eight thousand pounds and I have Issue besides the said Lady Turner the Honorable Thomas Newcomen my only Son and three unmarried daughters who are all of the age of twenty one years and upwards now in execution of the Powers contained in my said Marriage Settlement and in the subsequent deed and in pursuance and execution of all other powers thereby enabling me I hereby bequeath and appoint the said respective sums of five thousand pounds and Eight thousand pounds to and amongst my said three daughters in the Shares and Proportions following that is to say as to the said sum of five thousand pounds Charged by my Marriage Settlement upon my Manor and Lands of Carriglass I leave bequeath and appoint the sum of two thousand four hundred pounds part thereof to be raised and paid to my Eldest unmarried daughter the Honorable Jane Newcomen and the sum of One thousand three hundred pounds other part thereof to be raised and paid to the Honble Charlotte Newcomen my second eldest unmarried daughter and the remaining sum of One thousand three hundred pounds other part thereof to be raised and paid to the Honorable Catharine Newcomen my youngest unmarried dau[ghte]r with Interest for the said respective sums from the time of my decease and as to and concerning the subsequent deed on the Lands of Dromin I leave bequeath and appoint the said sum of Eight thousand pounds to be raised and paid to my said three unmarried daughters on the decease of the said Lady Newcomen their Mother to be equally divided between them that is to say the sum of two thousand six hundred and sixty six pounds thirteen shillings and four pence Sterling to each of them with Interest for their respective portions from the time of the decease of their said Mother and in case any of my said unmarried daughters shall die before her or their portions of said Sum of Eight thousand pounds shall become payable I hereby bequeath direct and appoint the share or shares of her or them so dying to go and be paid to the Survivors or Survivor of them I leave and bequeath to my dear Wife the said Vicountess Newcomen she having a Considerable Estate of her own my Coach and Coach Horses and all

her jewels ornaments and paraphernalia I give devise and bequeath unto my only Son the Honble Thomas Newcomen all my real and freehold Estates Lands Tenements and Heredits together with all my leasehold Interests and all debts due to me and which shall become due to me and all my Goods Chattels and personal fortune of whatever nature or kind soever which I now have or shall hereafter be possessed of or intitled to and not herein before bequeathed appointed or disposed of to have and to hold the same and every of them according to their respective natures and qualities to the said Thomas Newcomen his heirs Executors adm[inistrat]ors and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said Thomas Newcomen his heirs Exors Admors and Assigns for ever and I hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Thomas Newcomen sole Executor of this my Will and revoking all former Wills by me made I declare this to be my last Will and Testament In Testimony wherof I have hereunto and to a duplicate hereof put my hand and seal the twenty seventh day of September one thousand eight hundred and four - W G Newcomen [symbol] Signed sealed published and declared by the above named Sir William Gleadowe Newcomen Bart as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our Names as Witnesses at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other W Furlong J:ph Frkl:n Chambers W E Furlong

I Sir William Gleadowe Newcomen Bart do make and publish this as a Codicil to my last Will and Testament which is dated the twenty seventh of September 1804 I leave and bequeath to the Minister and Church Wardens of the parish of Saint Werburgh's in the City of Dublin and to their Successors Ministers & Church Wardens of said Parish the Royal Canal Loan Debenture for one hundred pounds bearing Interest at six pounds per Cent per Annum No 2091 which is herein inclosed in trust to receive the Interest thereof yearly and every year and to apply the same to buy bread and provisions for the poor of said Parish at Christmas I also leave and bequeath to the Ministers & Churchwardens of the Parish of Drumcondra where my honored father and Mother are buried & to their successors Ministers and Churchwardens of said

parish the other Royal Canal debenture herein also enclosed No 2092 for one hundred pounds bearing Interest at six pounds per cent per annum also In trust to receive the Interest thereof and to apply the same in purchase of Bread and Provisions for the poor of the said Parish I leave and bequeath to my dear wife Vicountess Newcomen my Gold repeating Watch made by by Dutton and Company I leave to my dear Daur the Honorable Teresa Lady Turner fifty Guineas to buy a Mourning Ring I desire I may be privately intered at Drumcondra in the Vault with my Father & Mother early in the Morning Witness my hand & seal this ninth day of July 1806 - W. A further Codicil to my Will I leave and bequeath the following sums to my near Relations for the purpose of buying Mourning

To Miss Gleadowe - £15 Miss Lilia Gleadowe - 15 Miss Frances Gleadowe - 15 Revd John Brooter - 15 His Wife Mrs Brooter - 15 Miss Mary Ann Brooter - 15 - - £105 In the whole one hundred & five pds

W G Newcomen

I mean the above Sums of £15 should be encreased to twenty pounds each in the whole One Hundred and forty pounds - W G N. [C.O]

I leave and bequeath unto the Revd Robert Gore Whistler Curate of Saint Werburgh's Parish that Addition of the Holy Bible with [space] under the [sl sd] Glass in my Study called Macklin's Edition for his humane Attention to me in my Illness and the Pious and impressive manner which he recommended me to solicit God's forgiveness of all my Crimes which I earnestly do thro the Redeemer of the World our Lord Jesus Christ - W G Newcomen Castle Street 6 January 1807.

William Furlong of the City of Dublin Esquire maketh oath and saith he knew and was well acquainted with Sir William Gleadowe Newcomen Bart late of the City of Dublin deceased and with his usual manner of hand writing often seen him write and subscribe his name and having carefully viewed and perused & examined a Paper Writing hereunto annexed purporting to be a Codicil to the last Will and Testament of said deceased beginning August 16th 1806 a further Codicil to my Will and ending in the whole one hundred and five pounds and subscribed W G Newcomen and deponent having also carefully viewed perused and examined another paper writing also hereunto annexed purporting to be a further Codicil to said Will beginning I mean the above Sums and ending one hundred and forty pounds and subscribed - W G N CO and having also carefully viewed perused and examined another Paper hereunto annexed purporting to be a further Codicil thereto beginning I leave and bequeath and ending our Lord Jesus Christ and subscribed W G Newcomen. Saith the whole Body Series and Contents of the said three several Papers Writing and every Word Letter and figure therein contained beginning and ending as aforesaid and the Signature thereto were all of the proper handwriting of the said deceased to the best of the deponents Judgment and belief. W Furlong Sworn this 10th Day of September One thousand eight hundred and seven before me Patk [?igenan]

The last Will and Testament and four Codicils of Sir William Gleadowe Newcomen of the City of Dublin Baronet deceased having and so forth were proved in Common form of Law and Probate Granted by the [Most] Reverend Father in God William & so forth to Sir Thomas Gleadowe Newcomen the sole Executor of the said Will he being first sworn personally saving & so forth dated the 2nd Octr One thousand Eight hundred and seven.
