To all people to whom this present writing shall come Tahantoe Indian Sagamore of Pinnacoke in New England sends Greeting Know ye that the said Tahantoe Indian Sagamore of Pinnacoke for That William Hilton now of Charlestowne in the Massachussess Colony in New England marriner sonne of William Hilton formerly of piscatague, which said Willm Hilton marriner together with his said Father about 30 years ago had intercourse with us by way of trade mutual giving and [illegible poss receiving?, and many [illegible] by them formerly showed [illegible] as this said Johantoe Indian Sagamore of pinnacoks Do is that in the year One thousand six hundred Thirty Six I gave unto said William Hilton this [illegible][illegible] land for Quantity six miles on the river [illegible] being a rivulet running into the [illegible] of pinnacoks, also more of my best meadow lands in Quantity two miles, both which lands Quantitys of lands are near together and byoth on this north eastside of this [illegible] pinnacoks joining to the same with all & every the apportionate [?] of all the aforsd lands, and in the same year gave the said William Hilton the younger position thereof or part thereof in [illegible] of y" whole, but this not then given any deeds in writing Wherefore now further know ye that for the consideration aforsd expressed in respect of many [illegible] [illegible] by us from [illegible] William Histon the son and his said ffather, not only before tho said first Great in this land [illegible] one thousand six hundred [illegible] as of pinnacoks have voluntarily [illegible] given compleating the sd Wm Histon [illegible] by these [illegible] Do give great [illegible] and confusion unto him that said William Histon by having end assignes for over all and every part of this aforesd lands of marsh and [illegible] the summe to be so paid out & bounded as may be and enjoy all and every part of the afrsaid [illegible] being part upland and part meadow or March according to there bounds and extent thereof unto the said William Hilton

Tahantoe Deed to William Hilton June 1660

To all people to whom this present writing shall come Tahantoe Indian Sagamore of Pinnacoke in New England send Greeting Know yee that I the said Tahantoe Indian Sagamore of pinnacoke for that William [H?]ilton now of Charlestowne in the Massachusess Colony in New England marriner soune of William Hilton formerly of piscataque, which said Willm Hilton marriner together with his said father about thirty years agoue had intercourse with us by way of trade mutual giving and reseiving, and many kindnesses by them formerly shewed unto us I the said Tahantoe Indian Sagamore of pinnacoke Do hereby acknowledge that in the year one thousand six hundred Thirty six I gave unto the said William Hilton the younger in lands for Quantity six miles on the river penaconyaquege being a rivelet runing into the maine river of pinnacoke, also more of my best meadow land in Quantity two miles, both which said Quantitys of land are near together and lyeth on the north east side of the sd River pennacoke joining to the same with all & every the appurtenances of all the aforesd lands, and in the same year gave the said William Hilton the younger possession thereof, or part thereof in name of the whole, but did not then give any deed in writing Wherefore now further know ye that for the consideracon afore expressed in respect of many kindnesses received by us from him the sd William Hilton the son & his said father, not only before the said first Grant in the said yeare one thousand six hundred thirty six but many [??nds] since I the said Tahantoe Indian Sagamore of pinnacoke have voluntarily & freely given granted enfeoffed and confirmed and (for the more full compleating the sd Wm Hiltons tytle) by these psents Do give grant enfeoffe and confirme unto him the said William Hilton his heirs and assigns for ever all and every part of the aforsd lands of marsh and upland the same to be so laid out & bounded as may be most for his and their conveniency To have hold possess and enjoy all and every part of the aforesaid lands being part upland and part meadow or marsh according to the bounds and extent thereof unto the said William Hilton his heirs and assigns for ever In such large and ample sort manner & forme as I the said Tahantoe Indian Sagamore of pinnacoke may grant convey and assure the same To be continue and remaine unto him the sd William Hilton his heirs and assigns for ever as aforesaid as his and their own

Owne proper right without any the lett molestation trouble or expulsion of me the said Tahantoe my heirs or assigns or any claimieng any Tytle or interest to the land or any poart or parcell thereof from or under me In witness whereof I the said Tahantoe Indian Sagamore of pinnacoke have hereunto put my hand and seal this ninth day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand and six hundred and sixty

Tahantoe Indian Sagamore of pinacoke his [symbol] marke with a seal of red was upon a Label in parchment

Indorsed as followeth

Signed sealed and delivered with possession long before given as the said Indian expressed in presence of Thomas Smith John Sonderland [symbol] his marke [?] attest [?] Robert Howard Not publ. [anno?] 1660

This Deed of gift within written was acknowledged by the within named Tahantoe Sagamore and delivered to Willm Hilton the ninth day of June 1660 before me Tho Wiggin

This is a true Copy of the orriginal word for word enter'd and recorded this 11'' day of June 1660 per Ro: Howard not. publ.

I John Valentine notary and [?a?e?hon] public dwelling in Boston in New england by authority addmitted & sworne attest the above as true copy from the publick notarys records at Boston aforesd by me examined and compared the 27th Febry 1716. Quod attestor regatus Jno. Valentine Nots Pubs

Straford the 14 day of may Loveing cinde [sure?] my respeacte to you and youre Loveing and cinde: wife hopeing that you and youres are in good helth at this time we are haveing opertunity to write to you at this time by Capten John Curtis : the prinsabell ocashone of writeing at this time is to give you an: acount of youre daughter marys good helth we hade [sente?] h hur by Moses Galapine for a [ussite?] to see you by but provedens did order othere wayss we doe desiere to bles the name of the lord our god in raseing [hur?] to [apertite?] helth and strenth she being taken the nig[?] night befor with fever that said galapine came tou youre towne he wase abel to give an [coute?] of [?] haveing hade a desier to send [hur?] to see you at this time but [my?] wife is under those curcomstaneses that we cante well spare hur we are in sume hope that misstris herto will come and give us [aussite?] mary presentes hur duty to hur father and mother and hur love to hur brothers and sisters Mr Joseph horton I would desiere of you one cindness and [I will?] make you resenabell satisfactone for youre trobell there is Mr Robord gloomer of youre towne is in dete to the estate of thomas ufford of straford desesed wich was the just [?] sume of 4 pound and eaght shilling he hase credid by mr bankes of ferfeild 2 pound and 4 shiling. and theire is 2 pound 4 shilling yet behinde the saide gloomer hand is to the saide uffords book the thing doth apere very right and juste that his hand is to my unkels book of wich I am maide the right and lawful [are?] of the saide ufford estate I therefore doe desier mr horton to make inquirey for the person if [?he] will [bl?e?aste] to paye the the mony with out trobell to you or praye [su?] discose the man aboute this matter and I would desier you to tel him that I shall trobell him at law if he will not pay it to to you if he pay it you give him a reseate if you be pleaste to sende me word abote the mater [Sure] [I rest?] y your abliged frind Samuell ufford
