1860 Sept 1st I Returned from Lynchg & Hollins Institute & left Sallie at School wy went there & returned wednesday night & come home thursday Beet some applies etc

2nd Henry at work on yard & shiller balance cutting. Mrs Hunt started for Mr Browns this morning — I went to aspen Grove settled with Cothran, lost one Hog there

3rd went to New Bethel to meeting been going nearly 2 weeks Jacob & Mr Moses with a great many others professed

3rd Rained this morning making Brooms & Picking wool etc began to over Tobacco

4th Toping & worming succoring Tobacco cloudy, Sent Henry over to old Place to borrow their Fan to Fann out our wheat

5. Finished Toping & worming & succoring Tobacco I sent for the Fan at old place to day I went to see Mr Grastys creditors & aspen Grove to day & Collected only of one man McHaney Hubbards & Dawson etc etc

6 Finished pulling fresh ground fodder worming Tobacco Brot home still etc Halled Rocks to set it up, suned second rate Tobacco got down some to prize Faned out some wheat this morning & sent ½ Bbl new crop here to mill

7th Sent 2½ more & after that sent yesterday Prizing Tobacco to day.

8th Prizing Tobacco in morning Tying up Blade fodder & Pulled some in far field to day shacked up all pulled down we went to S S Meeting to day — Sent Doct Jenning C. Thompson for Bens child Betsy to day 1st time - 9th to see Betsy again to day — Mrs Hunt come back from Mr Browns Saturday & staid till Tuesday

1860 Sept8th9th went to meeting myself — — 10th worming Mrs Hunt gone to CHouse & Succoring Tobacco I am stilling again making 1½ days cleared off cool JCT been Twice to old place

11th Stilled again to day, Pulling fodder next to Whiteheads, stacked up 4 & a ps stack last night fine Blade fodder —

12th Pulling again to day & stilling Sent to Mr J.P. Lewis for Bacon yesterday

13th Finished daubbing in night last night worming & succoring Tobacco to day. Tying up Fodder etc cool weather —

14th cool this morning worming & succoring this morning Tying up Fodder etc etc I am going to Plantation to day — to see Doss this went to see Doss saw Mr Waller he told me Doss was going to live with him, went to yates Cris Lanes & Plantation made a proposition to Cothran to Live there again & give him till Tuesday morning to decide -- We have 11 or 12 stacks Blade here & 19 at Plantation

15th Stayed at home all day riving boards prizing Tobacco Stacking fodder etc etc clear pretty weather —

16th Mr Doss Came here this morning & told me he intended to stand to his contract, & never said or thought of being off or disappointing me

17th Lucy & Mr Faris s Jack I dont go to Court to day Raining & we are working in our Tobacco prizing & taking down etc Raining moderately al day —

18th Fanning out our wheat, made about Bus. here sewed 9, Rained all day —

1860 Sept 19 Mrs Hunt come from CH this evening gone about 9 days – Killed Lamb Turkey etc prizing Tobacco Halled some from barn on road - wormed & succor’d in evening -

20, Jacob & his wife & Company came here yesterdayto day married 19th Sept 1860stayed all night here yet he is - here yet Jacob to Mary James Monroe married

21 him & his wife here balance all gone

22nd Cutting Tobacco over next to Capt Whiteheads Stacked 2 stacks Blade fodder prizing Tobacco Clems & Arch child a Girl Born to day - Sent for Mrs Stanly & pd her fine weather now

23rd went to meeting at Strait Stone

24. Pulling fodder & finished cutting Tops stilling Halled Tobacco to prize etc warm weather —

25. Stilling cutting Tops prizing Tobacco etc

26. Stilling went to plantation riving boards for Barn wormed & succored Tobacco & tied up Tops & finished this evening

27th Halling up Tobacco & Housing & worming & succoring over putting in Barn on Road cloudy & like for rain Did rain 2 showers, Riving Boards for for Barn, my cattle sick at aspen Grove lost my red Bull & a cow with young calf sick one milch cow sick here,

28. Firing House Tobacco working on Barn, worming & succoring Tobacco one of our Milch cows Died & one at aspen Grove overseer milked Died also

29th Saturday Sept 1860 I Have been stilling nearly all this week for Bro Hunts Est. stilled into Low wines 11 Bbls Cider Finished Covering Barn for Tobacco to day & skined Cow, got up Broom Corn Sent Jerry^ ^ Smith to Chalk Level,-

30th Sent Wm A Millers acct to Mrs Coleman by Charles to day

Oct 1st Mrs Coleman came gave me $40 money to pay Saml Steptoe & Wm A Miller Firing Tobacco, on Road finished stilling Cider for Bro Hunts Est. this morning prizing Tobacco to day Turned out another Hdd & put under prize the Lug Hdd chinked Barn, etc etc. Finished worming & succoring over Tobacco Gave My Daughter Kate 4 Ewe Lambs & a stack Blade fodder to Mr Moses last spring to feed with

2nd Oct. Stilling myself, Mrs Hunt went to Doct Steptoes & come back at night prizing old Tobacco cutting to day in near new ground all day - moderate weather finishing new Barn

3 Hilling & finished to day by Dinner made 42 Gallons, toll & stilling to come out for Bro Hunts Est — Cutting Tobacco Bob at work here to day cloudy Sent all the Cotton over to old place that belongs there oil & molasses

4 Prizing & Finished prizing to day Rained nearly all day

5. Daubing new Barn & Cut over Tobacco have Cut about 2000 sticks getting up apples & Beeting Mrs Fitzgerald 2 hands come at night to help

6th Oct getting up apples & Beeting Mrs FW 2 hands here to day hot 4-Bbls

7th likely for rain stayed at home -

8th Housed Tobacco in prize Barn 1st Cutting down below Barn did not quite fill it Halled up stumps Poles Rails etc for fodder stack fram[e] put in forks etc — — — I went to aspen Grove found slow sick give her a ps meat found negroes doing not much, & Cothran gone — Rained to day about 12 oclock - -

9th Stacked Tops got them all together before Breakfast Henry & his gang - Turned Cooler I went to old place to see about sale Nannie & Mrs Hunt went too — — I gave Mrs Hunt 50 for Bob to day to help me stack Tops as he talked of going to Mrs Coleman — Finished Tops Firing prize Barn Tobacco have cut near 2000 sticks here Turned cool to day — We have 11 or 12 Stacks fodder here 14 stacks Oats ½ stack old fodder yet 19th Stacks fodder & 16 stacks Oats at Plantation & at this time 6 Barns Tobacco full there & they are finishing cutting —

10th Cutting Tobacco & Piling to day Henry got another Barrel Cider last night fine weather Mrs Hunt & Bob gone to Mrs Colemans to day, Nannie & myself went to Chalk Level & Lent John shields 5 long Bags & 3 short Bags to carry wheat to Lynchg - clear weather returned 4 short & 3 long Bags — 1 missing & too many short ones sent me
